the christmas spirit
christmas is usually... well... we get caught up in all the hullabalooo, yea? in all the commercialism of it all... in the shopping and especially the busy-ness. today, i dunno what changed in me. maybe i'm just feeling lots better from feeling sick for awhile, but i feel christmassy! you know that feeling of just wonderful joy? yea, i'm happy today.
and i was thinking actually that lots of people aren't so happy right now. a few friends' parents or grandparents aren't doing so well physically, and then some other friends are going through emotional hardship (oh, the drama of relationships) and heartache. i guess i'm feeling pretty blessed these days. oh and that reminds me. i wanted to make a happy list like cici's thanxgiving '05 post. now's a good a time as ever:
dorothy's 2005 happy list
~ my family
~ how my relationship with my dad is like 10 times better than it was in high school/college
~ how my youngest brother cracks the heck out of me. he's so funny.
~ how my mom always always takes care of us
~ my mom's veggie sandwiches. they're the bestest. she puts cucumber, sprouts, tomatoes, avocados, lettuce, mayo, mustard, all on wheat bread. it's so big and fat that you don't even miss the meat!
~ for my entire large family, and how large they are, and how they know everyone's business, but aren't really gossipy about it. and how we're always happy for each other. and there for each other when times are tough.
~ for my friends. even though i wish sometimes to have one close sort of circle of friends, i love my best friends from my different associations of life. it means many more individual moments and dinners, rather than one large party (which wouldn't be a bad thing either).
~ for both the high and low maintenance friendships. for the struggles that we've gone through that have made us closer, for the distances that don't seem to matter. i love you all.
~ for all the relationships i've had, you've all made me grow. sorry for the heartaches. but i'm sure they've made you grow too. *hope*
~ for the one who's taken away and constantly squashes my worries at each instance they come up. you've taught me comfort and joy... yea, like the christmas carol.
~ for good chapstick and good shoes
~ for freakin awesome southern california weather
~ for people getting married and allowing me to work on their weddings
~ for happy hours with buddies
~ for good music
~ for snowboarding trips
~ for hawaii trips
~ for vegas trips
~ for anywhere trips!
~ for chocolate
~ for salty snacks
~ for love lost, and love gained, and love given, and love returned, and love given and returned, and love given even when not returned.
~ for forgiveness
~ for surprises
~ for the opportunity to work
~ for the opportunity to play, and live, and laugh
~ for a thousand sweet kisses (...i'll cover you)
~ for a home, not just a house
~ for blogs to read
~ for you who read my blog
~ for You who has given me all of these wonderful things! biL
have a very merry CHRISTmas!

"To try is to risk failure. But risk must be taken because the
greatest hazard of life is to risk nothing. The person who risks
nothing does nothing, has nothing, is nothing. He may avoid
suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot learn, feel, change,
grow, live, and love."
~unknown
"It has been my experience that folks who have no vices have very few virtues."
~ Abraham Lincoln
"live a life that others will remember years from now, NOT because it pointed to you but because of how it pointed to the One who made you."
~ Mark Hart, the Bible Geek
"we grow up learning to become self-reliant, but really we need to be God-reliant"
"we could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all exist very nicely in the same box"
"never wound hearts that love u, never give them the endless pain, because wounded hearts are like roses that never bloom"
"there comes a time when we have to stop loving someone not because that person has stopped loving us but because we have found out that they'd be happier if we'd let go"
