domesticating dorothy
the hubs was gonna go to frys after work yesterday, so i had to *gasp* cook our dinner. i was really craving mashed potatoes, so i had that in mind to make. easy enough, right? boil water, peel and quarter the potatoes, so it'd cook faster... mash, season, voila! mashed potatoes. right? well, i never realized how the right tools are so necessary to make good food. sure i could've used a regular old fork to mash my taters. but the only forks and spoons we have are our nice good silverware from the wedding. and shoot, i started using the fork to mash and i felt it getting weaker and almost bending. so i scrapped that. i tried a whisk and that just sucked cuz the taters were too heavy. i needed something more solid, so i just got a large slotted spoon that you use to cook with. it was nice and solid, so it was mashing pretty well. then i had a genius idea to use the new hand blender. i ripped it out of the box and put in the whisk attachment. why i did that after already trying the manual whisk, i don't know... but i tried it and turned it on. whiiiirrrrrrr, oh and there were mashed potatoes EVERYWHERE. greattttt. put it down, dorothy. go back to the large slotted spoon. mash mash mash... it's still really kinda lumpy. oh well, put in the butter. ok, it's smoother... salt and pepper to taste. oh and let's get fancy and put some oregano.. put in the cream. yea, it looks sooo much better.
so then henry gets home, i'm all proud, cuz the steak's almost done (7 mins on each side as instructed by the hubs). oh and i didn't burn it. and the mashed potatoes are almost done. he sees all the tools that i used to make the mashed potatoes in the sink and he's like, did you use all that to make the mashed potatoes? uh yeaaaa. i didn't have a potato masher!!! he just shakes his head as he tells me to put more heavy cream in the taters. he kisses me on the forehead and says, my wife's domesticated. hehehe...
