RENT, the movie

for a movie that's coming out this coming month, i don't hear a lot of publicity going on for it. so, i'm gonna do my own publicity and also remind myself to go see it. i'm not the big movie goer, but i really wanna see how they did this. so on 11/23/05, you know where i'll be. who wants to come with? maybe we can make a wednesday evening event of it! somewhere near pasadena perhaps? lemme know if you'd like to join in. ooh, i just saw that that's the wednesday right before thanxgiving. oh how appropriate. i'm been super appreciative of all of my friends lately, so this will be a nice thanksgiving activity. love you guys...

updates!

busy as usual. between dragonboat, my mom's bday, jackie and derek's wedding... it's been busy. but happy hours have been abundant! thank god for good friends. and carbombs. hehe!
pictures are over there ------>

more to come.

i took my family to the getty museum yesterday. we went more or less straight from church to there. it was my birthday gift to my mom, and i took them to eat at The Restaurant. it was a good brunch. my brother and i had crab and rock shrimp cake eggs benedict. my dad had some sort of halibut and my mom had new york steak. small portions, as most fine dining are. i don't think my dad got full at all. the serving size is perfect for my mom's dieting. but everything was very yummy. we took the garden tour, and saw the painted prayers exhibition. that place is so vastly huge that we could see only one pavillion (out of 5!). i'll definitely have to return.

my window view

i love the sunshine that my window seat allows through! i love the warmth! i know it'll be too hot in the summer, but it's great for now!

the demise of our society

i love listening to star 98.7 especially jamie, jack, and stench (formerly, jamie and danny) in the morning. but sometimes, i just know it's the demise of our society, or at least displays the negative nature of where we live. today, parents of 14 children were being interviewed. they were quite a peaceful sounding couple who spoke of their children as a blessing. when asked how they do it, how in the world they could provide for their children, they responded with faith, attributing that anything is possible with God and that He always provides. it was a very kind interview, but when they hung up, jamie, jack and stench were very quick to be doubtful of such a happy family. a different caller came in and she was just in disbelief that such a family could exist and couldn't believe the mother calling them a blessing. she goes on to say that she herself has 4 kids and yea, they're a blessing... when they're asleep! jamie made a comment that she's distrustful of 2 kinds of people: 1) those who speak with a smile all the time, and 2) those who attribute all things to God. and as she explains her points further, i just felt sick that this is the world that we live in. that people just can't be happy for other's happiness. instead, they doubt if they're truly happy and blessed. and that people just can't accept the fact that some people do have God so integrated in their lives that they see all things as coming from God, especially the ability to provide for 14 kids! and really, not everyone can have 14 kids. i immediately thought of my uncle's family. he's got 8 kids, living in woodland hills. they'll probably have 10. but no other family in my clan could have that many kids. only they could. that family is just the most happy, humble, peaceful family. the parents do well for a living, but they totally don't live that way at all. after all, the money has to go a long way in that household. but they, too, are very faith-filled. and although, it's quite unusual, they are able to do it. but if it were another branch of my family... oh lord, i couldn't imagine 8 or 9 of those kids. some cousins of mine are so high-maintenance and selfish, their parents couldn't possibly afford 8 of them. and imagine those 4 rambunctious boys from desperate housewives... holy crap, imagine having 8 of those kids. no way, right? but the thing is, God totally has a plan and that family of 8 is sooo not like that. they're all just happy-go-lucky, good, smart, well-behaved kids, who take care of one another. so really, it's not that hard to raise them. and i can totally see God's hand in that. it's just unfortunate that people who do attribute their successes to God are criticized for it. that portion of this morning's show displayed the cynicism that exists in our world, or at least in la. so sad to live that way. no wonder a lot of people are miserable in this town.

geek that i am

my job title is compensation analyst. what do i analyze exactly? data... physician payroll data. so i'm good with excel, but even without that, it's interesting to me to look at data through different perspectives to find patterns and such things. it's funny though, because this type of mentality transcends work. for example, i definitely apply these skills to the visitor trend of this lil ol' blogsite. as some of you have also monitored your visitor trends, i've been really curious to see who these people are. most, i know, are my friends who i know not just in the blogworld, but in the real world. it's easy to pick you out, cuz you actually link me to your site and visit mine from your link. but some are complete strangers, but are consistent visitors. like the guy who could never remember my website for a long time, but searched me out. he's french and the results always displayed in french google. i haven't seen those search results in a while, so i'm assuming that he memorized my address by now. it's been years after all. another guy i'm really, really curious about "meeting" is the one from cornell university. i'm imagining he just stumbled upon my site randomly a few months ago. but who are you, cornell student? post a comment or something. and feasterville trevose, pennsylvania. you visit me quite often too. i wonder who you are. then there's the kobe, hyogo person... who i'm somewhat positive is my friend chris who's in the JET program. oh and what really, really threw me off are all the international guests. then i found out that a friend's work uses satellite so that's who that probably is.

i also find it interesting how the locations of the servers can totally throw off my analysis... i know when i'm at work in pasadena, i show up as walnut creek, ca... that's in northern cali. it's cuz the servers are up there. i have another friend who works in downtown la. but his company's location posts as reston, virginia. totally throws me off.

well, regardless of who or where you are, thanx for visiting folks. send me an email or post a comment. i don't bite. really. only if i like you. just kidding! maybe ;)

excited!

Miami
Will Smith

Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah
Miami, uh, uh
Southbeach, bringin the heat, uh
Haha, can y'all feel that
Can y'all feel that
Jig it out, uh

Here I am in the place where I come let go
Miami the base and the sunset glow
Everyday like a mardi gras, everybody party all day
No work all play, okay
So we sip a little something, lay to rest the spill
Me an Charlie at the bar runnin up a high bill
Nothin less than ill, when we dress to kill
Everytime the ladies pass, they be like (Hi Will)
Can y'all feel me, all ages and races
Real sweet faces
Every different nation, Spanish, Hatian, Indian, Jamaican
Black, White, Cuban, and Asian
I only came for two days of playing
But everytime I come I always wind up stayin
This the type of town I could spend a few days in
Miami the city that keeps the roof blazin

Chorus:

Party in the city where the heat is on
All night, on the beach till the break of dawn
Welcome to Miami
Buenvenidos a Miami
Bouncin in the club where the heat is on
All night, on the beach till the break of dawn
I'm goin to Miami
Welcome to Miami

Yo I heard the rainstorms ain't nothin to mess with
But I can't feel a drip on the strip, it's a trip
Ladies half-dressed, fully equipped
And they be screamin out, (Will we loved your last hit)
So I'm thinkin I'ma scoot me somethin hot
In this south-sea merengue melting pot
Hottest club in the city, and it's right on the beach
Temperature get to ya, it's about to reach
Five-hundred degrees
In the carribean seas, with the hot mommies
Screamin (Aii poppy)
Everytime I come to town, they be spottin me
In the drop Bentley, ain't no stoppin me
So, cash in your door
We flow to this fashion show
Pound for pound anywhere you go
Yo, ain't no city in the world like this
An if you ask how I know I gots ta feed the film

Chorus

Don't get me wrong, Shytown got it goin on
An New York is the city that we know don't sleep
An we all know that L.A. and Philly stay jiggy
But on the sneak, Miami bringin heat for real
Y'all don't understand
I never seen so many Dominican women with cinnimon tans
Mierda, this is the plan
Take a walk on the beach, draw a heart in the sand
Gimmie your hand
Damn, you look sexy
Let's go to my yacht, in the West Keys
Ride my jetskis, loungin in the palm trees
Cause you gotta have cheese for the summerhouse piece on southbeach
Water so clear, you can see to the bottom
Hundred-thousand dollar cars, e'ybody got em
Ain't no surprise in the club to see Sly, Stallone
Miami, my second home

owie

i have an owie spot on my head where the ball hit me. i discovered it while shampooing. oww.

Sporty Dorothy

so, i pay an exorbitant amount of money for my gym membership. thus far, each visit has cost me $75 a pop. granted, i've only gone 3 times this year and have paid $25 a month for it. hence the high price per session. i'm not athletic. i really don't enjoy working out. the only reason i'd do it is to be able to eat what i want and still maintain my figure. but recently, i really haven't cared all that much, so i really, really don't work out.

this weekend, i'd like to introduce to you, Sporty Dorothy. for some odd reason, Sporty Dorothy decided to start, not one, but 2 sports in one weekend! she spent saturday morning rowing with a dragonboat team. she had a great time splashing the girl in front of her, as she tried to keep up the strokes. for the most part, she did okay, not great, but okay. and then, later, she discovered that the team she was rowing with was a highly competitive racing team, not just a recreational one. so she felt pretty good that she could sorta keep up with them. but holy heck, what did you get yourself into, Sporty Dorothy? heheh! had a great time though and may even join them on their competition trip to miami in 2 weeks. whooohooo! let's see if my budget allows for this.

today, sunday, Sporty Dorothy came out to play softball. she bought a glove on friday night, a nice jenny finch-endorsed, soft, comfy glove. the quality of the glove didn't quite help the skill level of Sporty Dorothy, as it still took her a lil while to get used to catching a softball. surprisingly though, Sporty Dorothy found that the throwing motion came naturally. she doesn't throw very far, but at least, she was comfortable at it. as with everything, she just needs to practice. oh! and the biggest surprise of all... she hit the ball! she actually made contact with it quite a few times! whoohoo! AND she tried her hand at pitching too. was okay at it, needs practice too.

the Sporty weekend was not without injuries. and Sporty Dorothy suddenly remembered the numerous times that she's been hit by a ball throughout her young unsporty life. she got hit on the head, on the pelvic bone (ouch, really, ouch), and has a lovely bruise on her inner forearm. she also felt like she almost fell off the boat on saturday. oh good lord.

and of course, she's sore. mostly from dragonboat. everything from her hamstrings to her lower back to her shoulder blades, and of course her shoulders and arms... all sore and jello-like today. i can't squat or sit on the ground without wincing. it's really hard to just take a shirt off or lift my arms above my head. and i know it'll be far worse tomorrow. but... heheh, worth it! i had a blast this weekend. now, it's naptime. i'm exhausted.

happy weekend!
